Undergraduate Research Assistant

Maddie Bengtson is a freshman majoring in behavioral neuroscience on the pre-medicine track. She has been a part of the lab since February 2021 and is currently assisting with research on hyper-palatable foods and also lifestyle behaviors in college students. She is interested in the mechanisms in the brain that drive both the development and also maintenance of eating and substance use disorders. She is also interested in researching different predispositions that may cause an individual to develop an eating or substance use disorder. She is currently working as a CNA at Saint Luke’s South and is a volunteer for Red Cross. Maddie aspires to go to medical school and specialize in either neurology or neuropsychiatry.

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Rose Brown is a 2nd year student at KU majoring in Psychology and minoring in French. She joined the lab in February 2021. Currently, Rose is contributing to the lab’s study on the usage of photography-based methodology via a smartphone app to assess dietary intake. Her research interests include alternative addiction treatment methods, the cognitive effects of housing instability and homelessness, and the treatment of eating disorders. After graduating next spring, she plans to work as a full-time research assistant before obtaining her PhD in Psychology. Rose is also a musician and member of KU’s student-run radio station, KJHK.

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Huraima is a senior majoring in Psychology. She joined the lab in August 2021. Her research interests are in major depressive disorder (MDD), and studying the behaviors that predict employee recruitment and promotion in an organization. She also works as a transfer ambassador at the KU-Edwards campus. She intends to earn a Ph.D. in Industrial-Organizational psychology.

Kelly is a sophomore studying Biochemistry and Psychology. She joined the lab in August 2020 and is currently assisting with research on the consumption of hyper-palatable foods. She is also the president of Hearts for the Homeless and a community resource intern for JayDoc Clinic. Kelly plans to attend medical school in the future.

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Audrey is a sophomore majoring in biochemistry with a Spanish minor. She joined the lab in the fall of 2021. Her research interests include the underlying biological mechanisms that drive mental illness and reward-seeking behaviors. After graduation, Audrey plans to join the peace corps in Latin America and then pursue an MD-PhD.
